Why ASIRD

Chances are you already have a dentist and are perfectly happy.

However, when it comes to dental implants, it is important that you find out whether he or she is proficient in the restorative dentistry skills that are required.

How to Choose a General Dentist

If your dentist is not an ASIRD member, be sure to ask how many dental implant cases he/she completed last year. Ask about the surgeon that will be placing your implant. Do they collaborate together as a team? Or are you simply being referred to the surgeon for the implant placement and then directed back to your dentist to finish the restoration?

When you work with an ASIRD dentist, you know that your dentist has completed extensive qualified continuing education in order to provide up-to-date dental care in a safe and comfortable manner.

ASIRD dentists are required to restore a minimum of five dental implant cases each year in order to maintain their membership. They must also complete extensive didactic and hands-on clinical training in technology, aesthetics and dental health. ASIRD dentists complete a rigorous clinical peer review process, which requires a high degree of commitment and skill. These qualifications of membership are how you know your ASIRD dentist is experienced in advanced procedures, techniques, and products, and will provide up-to-date dental care in a safe and comfortable manner. Through their commitment to education and technology, ASIRD teams are able to provide optimal treatment and quality dental care.

How to Choose a Dental Implant Surgeon

Dental implant surgery is of course surgery, and is best performed by a trained surgeon. It’s easy if your dentist is already an ASIRD member. Just make sure to ask that he/she refer you to an ASIRD member surgeon.

As an ASIRD member, your oral and maxillofacial surgeon has specialized education and training in the complexities of the bone, skin, muscles and nerves involved, to ensure you get optimal results. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the only dental specialists recognized by the American Dental Association as surgically trained in a hospital-based residency program for a minimum of four years. After more than 20 years of service, the vast majority of dental implants first placed by oral and facial surgeons in the United States continue to function as well as healthy natural teeth. More importantly, the recipients of those early dental implants are still satisfied they made the right choice.

Choosing the Right Dentist and Oral Surgeon: Why Use An ASIRD Team?

Quality surgical and restorative patient care is the core principle of the American Society of Implant & Reconstructive Dentistry. Choosing the right dentist and oral surgeon team is important for patients.

ASIRD was organized for the primary purpose of improving the quality of care for dental implant patients by elevating the standards of surgical and restorative dental education and practice, and educating consumers on the benefits of dental implants, and the importance of choosing a qualified dental team.

Not every dentist routinely restores and maintains dental implants, and not all placers of dental implants are surgeons. By using an ASIRD team, rest assured that your dentist routinely restores and maintains dental implants and only a trained surgeon will place your implant. By actively participating together in ASIRD qualified dental implant education programs, your team of doctors is able to offer you cutting-edge technologies and advanced innovations. ASIRD membership is by invitation only and reviewed annually. Members must undergo an application process, peer review and license verification. Members must perform a minimum number of implant procedures each year in order to maintain their membership level, as well as maintain active participation in an ASIRD qualified dental implant education program.
